Carrie Burgoon: Color Contrast Blog

1. My first thought is, wow there is a lot going on in this picture between the colors and the lines. There is a lot of contrast in the image that's for sure.  I first notice the rolls of duct tape since there is the negative space in the middle, then I see the pile of paints. I like this picture because it is so lively and happy. Also it is very spontaneous. 

2. In this picture there is a pile of paints. The colors range anywhere from blue, red and yellow to green, black and white. There is also two rolls of duct tape on the sides of the pile, which sits in the middle of the picture. There is a teal or turquoise roll on the viewers left and a hot pink roll on the right. In the background you see a material covered with many vibrant colors arranged in different sized stripes.

3. Like I said before, the composition sits in the middle and shows many different colors from the color wheel throughout the picture. The lines from the material lead your eye to the pile of paints, the lines towards the top lead your eye across the picture plane.

4. This picture tells of a young girl artist. The sheets in the background tell us that this is  definitely a young ladies bed and we see the cluttered paints showing she must be a painter or an artist and that she might not be the most organized person. I would call this picture "Unique."

5. My image relates to Paul Cezanne's drawings and paintings in one specific way, he paints pictures of piles of bright colored fruit and my picture isn't quite fruit like him but there is a group of colorful paints.

1. This picture makes me think of a landscape because it looks sort of like a stem on a plant or a branch, also it uses all neutral colors making it seem a lot like nature. The background looks like it could be a close up on a tree and its bark. I really like this photo for the simple fact that you can't tell what this is a picture of. You have to see it for its design not what the object is.

2. In this picture you see a light green set of lines that make up a stem like design. Behind that is a brown and white implied texture of the bark on a tree. You can barely tell but what is in front of you is a fabric of some kind.

3.I think this is a very nice composition. The colors are neutral so it isn't too flashy. It has soft lines that lead your eye toward the top of the picture plane. The focal point would be the green area in the middle and in this picture I think it works to have that in the middle because there isn't a whole lot going on, the lines make your eye continue to move not just stop right there.

4. This is a story of calmness and relaxation. When you look at it it is easy on the eyes and gives off a comforting feeling. I would call it, Fresh Air because when i look at it, I feel the need to take a deep breath and let out my stress.

5. This picture is a lot like one of Joseph Mallord William Turner's paintings. He made a landscape of what looks like a wave but it is sort of abstract so you aren't for sure which is a lot like my image. You  can see that it has a landscape look but it's not a real landscape.

Carrie Burgoon: Figure Ground Relationship Blog

1. The first thing I notice about this image is the way it is angled. The way my body is compared to the table and chair.  Then I notice where I sit on the picture plane. I am in the lower left hand corner of the picture. I would say that my shirt stands out the most because everything else in the photo is a lighter value and my black shirt catches the eye.

2. This is a picture of me sitting on a char in the Union. There is a table with a vase of flower behind me and a carpet with square designs. My body is in the lower left corner of the page and the angle the picture is taken is different than normal pictures. It is a vertical picture and is above the horizon line. I am wearing a black shirt with a white long sleeve shirt and jeans. 

3. The way the picture is take, there is an interesting relationship between the objects. It messes with the mind a little bit. When you see my body the image looks fine but when you compare me to the table and opposite chair, something doesn't focus right. You feel the need to tilt your head when looking at the picture. Like I said before, most of the picture is lighter values but my shirt is a dark value so that sticks out. 

4. This picture tells a story of a fun and exciting person. I am posing funny so you know I enjoy having a good time. The way the picture is taken it shows that I am crazy. It seems to be very spontaneous which also matches my personality. If I were to give this picture a name it would be " Fun" because I am in a laid back environment but I am making it fun.

5. My picture connects to William Kentridge's because he draws picture of people in different compositions other than in the exact middle straight on. One image that I liked of his was the one in the book called "Tide Table: Soho Sleeping."  You can see that there is a random cow in the background, he drew the guy from a side view and he is towards the left side of the picture plane. In my picture I am sort of head on but not quite and the angle is different than a normal picture.

Carrie Burgoon: Self-Portrait Blog

1. At first I notice the brightness on the left side of my face and the sudden dark on the right making extreme values. It is just a simple photo, nothing too exciting. Of course since this is a self portrait, my immediate response is to search my image for flaws. The way my face is angled makes my nose look long and the way the lighting is makes me look pale but on a happy note my hair looks good.

2. This is a snapshot of my head and shoulders. The background is dark but you can kind of tell its in my dorm room. The left side of my face is very bright because there is a light to my left so the right side of my face is darker. I am in the middle of the picture plane and I take up most of the picture. I am wearing a turquoise shirt with a long sleeve white shirt underneath. I have my hair half up with a white ribbon in it.

3. Like I said before my face and shoulders take up most of the picture and I am placed in the middle. There is only light coming from one side so there are many shadows. Most of the picture is lights and darks but the thing that stands out the most is my shirt. It brings more color to the image.

4. This pictures tell a story through my eyes.  You can tell that for the most part I am happy but there is a hint of fear. A fear of the unknown, not knowing the future, not knowing where I will end up, if I will succeed or fail miserably. My eyes are the windows to my soul, to my heart, and to my mind. i would name this picture "Snapshot" it is just a second of my life.

5. My picture relates to Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres' because all of her drawings and paintings are portraits of people. They all tell a story of who the person is and what they have been through. They aren't all complex pictures some of them are just simple pictures of the person in a plain room.

Carrie Burgoon: Perspective Blog

1. My first thought is that this picture is a little out of focus. I see the bowl first and then I notice the black trim on the wall. It shows good value and one point perspective.

2. This is an image of a white bowl with a simple green design of flowers and vine. The bowl is in the middle of the picture plane and is sitting on a white floor in front of a white wall with black trim. The picture is taken from a straight on view so the vantage point would be in the very middle of the horizon line.

3. There is mostly neutral colors in the picture, nothing really bright. Most of the lines are horizontal or vertical the only curved lines are the lines on the bowl. If i were to change this composition in any way I might put the bowl off to the left or right a little so your eye didn't just stay in the middle of the image.

4. This image doesn't tell a story but I would probably just call it "Single Bowl"

5. Most of Edward Ruscha's work is more like pop art and isn't really of objects but of words. There is one image I found of his that is a painting of a single bowl in front of a wall, which is where I got this idea. His work had more color and texture but it is the same basic idea.

Carrie Burgoon: Texture Blog

1. My first impression is that the blue towel looks very soft and warm.I want to curl up with it and fall asleep. I notice the towel first  obviously since it is front and center.

2. This is an image of a baby blue towel that is hanging on a wooden closet door. The towel is in the center of the composition and the light source comes from the right side.

3. I don't really like the composition but I think it serves its purpose for this project. The difference in color of the closet and the towel make the blue of the towel really pop out. 

4. I would call this photo "towel" because that is the main object in this image. If this picture told a story it would be a story of a young child refusing to take a bath. 

5. I would say this image relates to Richard Serra's drawings and sculptures because he uses simple objects and makes them exciting and I used a simple object.

Carrie Burgoon: Expression and Value Blog

1.At first I notice pink slippers and then I notice the curtain, after that different values on the wooden floor. The line up the slipper and up the leg takes your eye to the other leg and slipper. I really enjoy this photo because it makes me think of passion toward dancing.

2. This is a photo of a pair of ballet slippers that are placed right in the middle of the composition. Behind the slippers is a blue curtain that pops out on the picture. This is taken on a wooden floor that has many lines and values to it.

3.I think the composition is okay I think I would enjoy it more if it were off center or from a different angle. I think the line quality is good, there are lines on the floor that guide your eye to the slippers.  like the color of the slippers, the dirt shows that the dancer works very passionately.

4.This picture tells of a dancer that loves what she does and works very hard at it.  If I gave it a name I would name it "Dancer". 

5. This work relates to Edgar Degas, one because it has to do with dancing and a dancer just like his drawing in the book but also the movement of the picture.
